Isolated Tab Dimmer Triac

Isolated Tab Dimmer Triac

Design Notes:

Protection Application:
Triac selection depends on the line voltage, maximum load current and the specific trigger circuit employed. "Isolated Tab" means the mounting tab is electrically (but not thermally) isolated from the internal components.
Solution Description:
For 600 Watt residential dimmers, the 400V, 10 Amp Q4010L4 is most common.
Companion Solutions:
Where higher line voltages are used, the 600V, 8 Amp Q6008L4 may be appropriate. The Q4010LT and Q6008LT have the trigger diac integrated into the package.
Regulatory Issues:
N/A The Littelfuse method of isolating the tab is state-of-the-art. Isolation is a UL requirement as it separates the power circuits from the metal mounting plate.
Unique Features:
Application Warnings:
As a general rule, DO NOT use non-isolated triac devices in light dimmers!
